I am spending time I need to be spending on CoSy , the language and the business , on publicly documenting this debacle because it is exactly the petty bureaucratic tyranny ( and fear ) which made economic basket cases of the CCCP and its fellow socialist satellites , and is now doing so in Venezuela . It is an example of why libertarians prefer the term statism to refer to the dangers of the monopoly on the use force claimed by the State versus the rule of choice in the marketplace .

Context :
CoSy , the language , melding the brilliances of the 2 greatest innovators of computer language in the 20th century I have known : Ken Iverson creator of APL , and know : Chuck Moore , creator of Forth , is a substantial component of my life's work . These languages are the extremes of the spectrum from succinct expression of algorithms ( APL ) to a minimal vocabulary in a chip language needed to make a dictionary cabable of extending itself ( FORTH ) .
    Thus their markets are rarefied  and global . The opportunities to meet with the major voices and vendors in such a market are infrequent . The small EuroForth conference , this year in Edinburgh is -- was -- the most global . I had been planning this important business trip since I first heard of it . And planned also to meet friends and connections on the APL around London to update them to this emerging alternative to the current commercial APL offerings .

I booked my flight thru Orbitz  for a British Air flight from Denver to Heathrow August 24 . I'll admit I didn't pay much attention to anything other than the itinerary . I just archived the email and put the flight information in my  CoSy log for the trip dates .  I had used Orbitz before , domestically , so I assumed they had my correct information . Label me a sometimes oblivious 73 year old .

Only when I was checking in to BA did the counter clerk notice that the reservation was in the name BOBBOB ARMSTRONG .   

She called her supervisor who turned out to be the only rational individual  I encountered in this whole costly debacle . She looked at the ticket and saw BOB and "Oh , that's the same as ROBERT and said to go ahead and check me in .  ( I hope her job is not in jeopardy for using common sense . )

TSA raised no problem either as I went out to wait for the flight .

Post 0911 TSA security theater is generally a demeaning lesson in sheeple training , but generally with minimal interference with the conduct of commerce .  DEN TSA had me remove not only my belt bucket but the leather belt you see here . I would be amazed to see the technology which could weaponize that belt any more than it is simply being a belt . I saw they also had the guy behind me remove his fabric belt .  If they are going to do this , perhaps they should just treat us completely as supermax inmates and not allow belts at all -- or cords of any kind .

More Detail :

This profoundly stupid , I mean severely diminished intelligence , petty administrative tyranny masquerading as protecting other passengers from me has been very costly to me -- and to the potential commerce with others gathered from around the world for this rather esoteric but cutting edge computing language conference . 
These gatherings happen only once a year .

So now to see if I can at least get my $780 back -- forget about the Lyft to the airport , or my time and effort preparing for the conference and other meetings while in Britain .

  Took RT airport > Garrison rd . 4.50 for seniors . Brooke picked up .

The 747 I was booked on with BA broke some part of a flap or aileron and ~ 2100 the flight was cancelled .
Finally > 2300 , it looked like I would skip the idea of driving up from LHR .
Spent the rest of the night in DEN it being < 11 hours til my UA flight to EWR and on directly to EDI .
But then ~ 0900 this morning I ran into  the circle jerk of mindless airline bureaucracy .

They beat me . Bin Laden is smiling in his grave .

I'm sorry in all meanings that I won't make it over to the conference and to see old friends .
I'll flesh this out after a shower and a sleep . ( 1st "s" already taken care of . )
