Dear Mr. Armstrong,
Thank you for contacting me about our democracy and commitment to voting rights. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue. I strongly believe that we should do everything we can to make it easier, not harder, for Americans to vote. During my time in the Senate, I have repeatedly cosponsored the Voting Rights Advancement Act (now the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act). I have supported and will continue to support the For the People Act, which prohibits voter caging, strengthens penalties on voter deception and intimidation, and protects against the purging of voter rolls. The For the People Act also includes provisions from several bills I have previously introduced, for example, to prohibit partisan gerrymandering, close lobbying loopholes, and make it easier for college students to vote. I have also proposed broader reforms to strengthen our democracy. This includes efforts to clean up our campaign finance system, such as a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s disastrous decision in Citizens United, along with bills that would require former politicians close their old campaign accounts and require super PACs and dark money groups to promptly disclose their large donors. To shut the revolving door between the Capitol and K Street, I’ve also introduced bills to ban members of Congress from ever becoming lobbyists. To reform our elections and reduce toxic partisanship, I’ve also introduced a bill to support states that wish to transition a ranked choice voting model for their elections. Generation after generation of Americans has worked to hand us a stronger and more inclusive democracy. I will keep fighting to make sure we hand our children and grandchildren the same. I value the input of fellow Coloradans in considering the wide variety of important issues and legislative initiatives that come before the Senate. I hope you will continue to inform me of your thoughts and concerns. For more information about my priorities as a U.S. Senator, I invite you to visit my website at http://bennet.senate.gov/. Again, thank you for contacting me. Sincerely,
