I am therefore turning my energies to working with Marian Henry , who describes herself as an "Ayn Rand" Republican , and her campaign committee to more effectively pursue our mutual goal . I have made it clear to Marian that my support is specific to our district race and I will continue to be supporting and working for John Clifton`s Senatorial , and Harry Browne`s Presidential campaigns -- they are truly the class of the field in each of their races . I buy the principle that the more mistakes you can make per unit time the more you learn . Theory without practice , -- walks . This is the first election cycle I have ever been involved in ( it is Jerrold Nadler`s defense of the Clintons` criminality that activated me ) and I have learned a great deal . As each event and milestone has come along , I have wished I could have had understood it , a week or a month or more before . But , of course , that`s the point of diving in to the deep end . At my Mid Winter kickoff , I set a milestone to have a Mid Summer Party at Coney Island . This is Mid Summer . I knew from early on that several thousand valid signatures would need to be collected sometime during the summer in order to be included the fall ballot . ( 3500 for me as an independent vs 1250 for Marion as an establishment candidate -- blatantly un-constitutional . ( On NYC Ch74 last night , I saw the 6000 (!) signatures of a first-time Hispanic would-be candidate rejected because of some flaw with the cover pages about which he asked to see the book of regulations he had relied upon - but forgot to bring with him . Didn`t sound like it would have mattered . ) ) To simply buy the signatures from professional petitioners with my own money would be a pointless act of ego . I myself collected about 8 pages of signatures from constituents as far north as 105th street and as far out as Brighton Beach . I got about 4 of those pages last wednesday at the 72nd & Broadway subway where I met and chatted with Michael Nadler , Jerrold`s son . ( He declined to sign . ) The rate of collection , especially given the proportion of invalids -- e.g. , out of districts -- which occurred despite my verbal screening , was clearly not an affordable use of my time . I wish to thank especially Jak Karako and Bob Eikel for their true yeoman`s work collecting signatures for the cause . I deeply appreciate it . I wish to also deeply thank the generous champions of Liberty who donated a total of over $500 to my effort . I have spent substantially more that this amount , and certainly can use the funds . However , because I do not feel I have met what should have been their basic expectations , I will return the donations of those who request it . As soon as I think of another name to add to those I thanked above , I think of a half a dozen or more more . So my highest class thanks to some to some truly class mates . But John Clifton is singular . His level-headedness , quiet substance and early support made possible my learning as much as I have . Although I will be learning the End Game from the perspective of a support position in a larger committee , I plan to spend Mid Summer Sunday out at Coney Island on my MotorBoard collecting signatures for John and Harry .
