When they raised the fare 33% to $2 , my immediate thought was ,= damn you ought to be able to make money at $2 a ride . The MTA figures indicate that with current practices , average= actual fare is about $1.05 which has decreased from $1.36 before unlimited= ride MetroCards so break even would be about ~ $2.5 based on approximately= 2,175,000,000 fares per year .
