The 62-year-old singer, one half of folk duo Simon and Garfunkel,= was busted for pot, according to a New York State Police= spokesperson. Garfunkel was riding alone in a limousine when a= state trooper pulled the vehicle over for speeding at 12:20 p.m.= on Saturday in Hurley, New York, 55 miles southwest of Albany.= The officer claimed he smelled marijuana inside the car, and= while searching the vehicle, the driver and Garfunkel, found a= small amount of pot in the singer's jacket pocket. Garfunkel, a Manhattan resident, was charged with possession of= marijuana and faces a $100 fine, unless he has had a conviction= within the past three years, in which case a more severe penalty= is possible. A court date is scheduled for Wednesday, though= Garfunkel is not required to appear in person. He could respond= by mail or have a lawyer appear in his place. Simon and Garfunkel released five albums during their six-year= recording career, which began with 1964's Wednesday Morning, 3= AM. "The Sounds of Silence," "Scarborough Fair," "The Boxer,"= "Mrs. Robinson," and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" are among= their biggest hits. After the two separated, Garfunkel recorded= several albums as a solo artist. The pair, who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame= in 1990, wrapped up a U.S. tour last month.
